Our morning began with a light breakfast, opting for something simple instead of the traditional Filipino meal of rice and dried fish, which we weren’t quite ready for so early in the day. Afterwards, we headed to the stunning beach, where we had the opportunity to snorkel and were enchanted by the sight of vibrant, colourful fish and even a small school of sardines. Although Maolboal is known for its occasional sea turtle sightings, we weren’t lucky enough to see any this time, as we stayed closer to shore due to the strong currents.
Following our beach adventure, we took a stroll through the quaint streets of this charming seaside town in the Philippines. With school in session, the area was pleasantly quiet, allowing us to fully enjoy the serene atmosphere. As we walked, we sampled some street food—just a little, as we had been advised that our stomachs might not handle everything. We tried some fried fish in a batter, which wasn’t exactly to my taste, though Mehek seemed to enjoy it. We also treated ourselves to some fresh coconut water, which was wonderfully refreshing in the hot, humid weather.
Later in the afternoon, we made our way back to the city, catching glimpses of provincial life along the way. The contrast between the rich wildlife and the humble community was striking, and it was inspiring to see how the people here live self-sufficiently and harmoniously with their surroundings, despite having limited resources.
Sunday was a much-needed day of rest for us. Feeling quite tired, we decided to take it easy and recharge before the week ahead, ensuring we were ready for our return to the hospital.
Overall, it was a wonderful weekend that allowed us to experience a very different side of the Philippines, one that contrasts sharply with what we had seen in the city and what we’re used to in France. The beauty of the landscape and the kindness of the people made it an unforgettable experience.
