Wednesday the 31st of July

Today we had five patients of which four were very young ranging from 2 to 5 years old. We started the day by playing games and doing some activities with the children but as the procedures began, the young ones started to cry. We decided to turn on the TV so that the other children, who were still waiting for their treatment to begin, would feel more at ease amidst all the crying. A few of them slept through their treatment while the others watched TV. Towards the end of the day, when their IV’s got removed, we did a few activities. Some made bracelets, others decorated purses.

Some kids can take on the day very well but others find it difficult and what they need is a bit of quiet time and rest. Kythe is there to facilitate whichever need they have. They offer activities and games for the children, installed a TV in the chemo room so that the children can stay occupied and will try to find whatever it is that the children want or need. But they are also there to offer support to the parents, with education sessions on how to make their children more comfortable or just being there to talk about their difficulties.

Part of the donations and grants the foundation receives are used to buy material for activities and games, but a large part of their donations are used to help fund medical care for the children. Some families cannot afford the medical care needed for their children or they run out of funds and have to stop the treatment. Kythe offers financial support for those families so that they can afford the doctors and medications.

We have set up a ‘GoFund Me’ page to receive donations which once collected will be given to the Kythe Foundation to help fund the children's medical care. Seeing from close by the wonderful work Kythe is doing makes us hope that together with you we can make a difference for some more children.
